Julia F. Kurtz is an Associate with the firm and practices civil litigation with a concentration on medical malpractice defense, federal civil rights defense, and health care law. Prior to joining Matis Baum O’Connor, Ms. Kurtz worked as the Legislative Director for a Pittsburgh City Council Representative.
Ms. Kurtz previously completed a Post-Graduate Fellowship with the University of Pittsburgh School of Law’s Health Law Clinic. During her time there, Ms. Kurtz participated in their Medical-Legal Partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC where she collaborated with doctors, nurses, and various health care practitioners to address the underlying causes of health-harming conditions. She also represented her client as first chair in a guardianship case and assisted other clients with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and education issues.
Ms. Kurtz earned her Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and philosophy from West Virginia University in 2013 and her Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2016. During law school, Ms. Kurtz worked at the Milton A. Kramer Health Law Clinic helping to establish a Medical-Legal Partnership with University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and assisting clients with Social Security, housing, and education issues. Ms. Kurtz also served as the Managing Editor of the Case Western Reserve Journal of International Law, and she was recognized for her work with the Case Global Service Award.
